Build your own FP&A app

During the show, Ravi Santokhi asked an AI coding assistant to build a working FP&A application from a single prompt. You can run the same experiment. Download the build specification, attach it to a new task in your coding assistant and paste in the prompt below. The file contains everything the assistant needs: a fictitious company, a fixed synthetic dataset, the calculation rules and twelve tests to check the result. You do not need company data, an API key or an account.

Because every assistant gets the same file, you can compare tools on the same twelve tests and see for yourself what AI can build today, and where it still falls short. It works best in a coding assistant that can create files and run code. A regular chat window will give you the code instead of a working app.

How to run it

1. Download the file with the button above. Do not edit it: the results are only comparable when everyone uses the same file.
2. Open a coding assistant that can create files and run code, such as Codex or Claude Code. A regular chat window works too, but it gives you the code instead of a working app.
3. Start a new task and attach BUILD_YOUR_OWN_FPA_APP.md.
4. Copy the prompt below, paste it in and send it.
5. Let it build. This can take a while. The assistant only asks you something if it cannot continue on its own, and it does not publish or send anything.
6. Open the app using the start instructions it gives you. In most cases this is a single HTML file you open with a double-click in your browser.
7. Check the test report. The assistant reports on twelve tests, labeled A to L. A test it did not run counts as "not verified", not as passed.
